Lake Superior Trip, Day 7, Sunday, July 24 (Layover)

0645-Went to bed early last night and slept late this morning! Heavy rain soon after I was asleep but no wind. Fog and mist this morning. 59F/56F. This will be a layover day.  It's suppose to be a rainy day even though another forecast says it will be partly cloudy. Solar 74%.

0910-Completed my morning Bible study time so I will now make a breakfast omelet with onions, peppers, mushrooms, cheese, bacon and toast on the side, with OJ. Big breakfast on this layover day.

1030-Breakfast finished and the flotilla is on the move though one boat seems stopped nearby. I have no idea why. Mostly cloudy, but some breaks with sun. 75F/69F.

1130-Last of the 7 sailboats trailed out.  I washed dishes rinsing first on the stern in very cold soapy lake water.  Then a final wash and rinse in fresh hot water and put in the rack to dry.

Brushed my teeth and washed my face. Sun now breaking through in places. 68F/65F. Cool day.

1230-Gathered more firewood since I burned some last night before the rain hit. Still wet so I hope it dries out.

I will fly the drone if wind drops a bit. A little breezy now. Not tired enough to nap since I had a long sleep last night.  66F/67F. Weather unchanged.

Spent time planning my next move considering Swede Island. Last time I was there was in the early 90's, maybe 30 years ago!  I wonder if it is still there? The old sauna that is.

Tomorrow is hump day so I will need to start working my way back toward Red Rock.

1450-I read the collected works of Grey Owl (the first in the collection) and sipped some white wine and relaxed.

I later went out and flew the drone on a couple flights and almost collided with a small group of trees on the island while trying to do a low fly shot.  Hard to hit trees when there are so few, but I nearly managed it!

Afterward I cam in and put the two drone batteries in the charger so I'm ready for the next time.

It's close to dinner time now so I fired up the grill.  But it doesn't perform well with wind and it has been breezy all day.

1620-Finished dinner of a burger, chips and a frosted mug of beer. Tasted great! Sprinkling again so an evening fire is iffy.

Observed one sail boat enter Root Bay for the night. I'm kind of keeper of the entrance.

1635-Rain coming down again, not looking good at all for a fire tonight.  Everything is pretty wet.  Just not enough sun to dry it out.  Fortunately the boat is tight and dry. 68F/61F.  Cooling off fast!

Tomorrow is supposed to be partly cloudy with less chance of rain.  It says on Zoleo zero percent chance but my 10 day printout shows 20%-30%. Zoleo should be the most accurate, but we will see.

2100-Just came in from the fire. It stopped raining so I gave it a try, but even the kindling was wet so I cut off some dead spruce twigs, especially those covered in moss, which makes excellent fire starter.

I stacked that on top of my usual paper starter then added more small sticks and lit it off. It worked great. Then I just kept feeding the fire to keep it hot and burned up all my firewood.

The sailors came down in their dinghy to check out the bay and my boat I think? They approached close by but saw me by my fire and turned and went back.  I was listening to music and called it quits when the wood was gone just at sunset.  I didn't make it until dark.

There is a significant seiche going out and coming in, and it appeared to me if the seiche is out it could be difficult getting the boat off the slab rock shore.  It looks like it is coming back in now and appears to be at least 6 inches.

Time for bed.  I will listen to my audio book and hit the sack.
