Temagami Trip 2022

Day 2, Tuesday, September 13

0430 (EDT)-Solar 62%. Alarm went off. Sleep was fitful. I will do my study time, then have breakfast, wash dishes and be on my way be 0730, hopefully.

0715-I went out to take the chimney down and when I returned to go back inside the aft deck door was locked! I was outside with no keys to the truck or the boat with lights on inside. Rain was threatening.  I felt helpless but called out to the Lord for help because He was the only one who could save my situation!

I was parked in the hotel parking area where I wasn't actually booked into a room. Though I had stayed in the hotel four times previously. I needed their help since my phone was locked inside the boat!

So, I went into the front desk and asked if they knew of a locksmith in town. It is a very small town with a population of only 1500! The clerk started to say no, then hesitated and turned to point at a card holder right on the counter advertising a locksmith.  But I had no phone so had to ask if I could use the hotel phone to call the locksmith, and he answered immediately! A surprise, given that it was early in the morning.

I explained my problem and he said he would have to ask his regular employer if he could leave his job to go unlock my vehicle.  He said he would call right back, and he did! His boss let him go!  He stated it would take about 15 minutes, but it was more like 10, and he had the truck door open in about 3 minutes!

When the locksmith arrived I explained I needed to get into the boat not the truck, but he said he did not have the lock picking tools to get into that type of door and would have to go back to retrieve those tools.  Even so, he was not certain he could open the boat door.  I remembered I thought I left a spare boat key in the truck and he said he could open that with no problem, which he did.  Fortunately, my memory was correct and there was a spare boat door key in the truck and I was able to then get into the boat and retrieve my keys and phone.

The miracles were lining up! $80 was the charge but the locksmith did not take AAA and wanted cash, but I only had $60.  I told him I was headed to Canada and only had credit cards. He finally capitulated and took my check.

0745-I departed the hotel and was only 15 minutes past my planned departure time...amazing! The problem was only discovered 30 minutes before.  It is amazing how the Lord worked it all out. I was afraid the nearest locksmith might be in Sault Ste Marie over an hour away at best! Praise the Lord!

I took the owners of Leisure Island Houseboats (Mike, Gwen, and their daughter Abby) out for a nice dinner and we talked until 10 pm. I had rented houseboats from them twice in the past and they offered to let me launch at their place.
